Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services is looking for a Enterprise Risk Manager to join our busy team flexible working from their office in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

Reporting to the Enterprise Risk Lead, this role is to support the implementation and effective delivery of the Enterprise risk management framework across the whole of Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) to ensure that risk management is used as an effective tool to support business decisions in a consistent and effective manner. This role will support the implementation of the Risk Improvement plan and lead on elements of the Enterprise Risk Target Operating Model, whilst providing a key business partnering role to various functions with NWS. The role will also act as the subject matter expert and lead for Insurance matters within NWS, engaging closely with NWS Legal team and NDA Group Insurance team.

The role will liaise closely with Executive Directors, Heads of Function, managers and risk owners across the organisation, to ensure that all the elements of Risks, Issues and Opportunities are identified, understood, evaluated and managed. The role will also provide expert challenge and provision of technical and non-technical input and coaching. The role will work closely with the NWS Enterprise risk lead and will support the production of enterprise risk reports and support the drive to improve the risk culture within the company. The role is expected to have strong communication and interpersonal skills to enable them to successfully influence and respectfully challenge colleagues in relation to upholding risk management standards. The role will also expect to have regular engagement with the NWS ARAC members to support understanding of the organisations ability to manage risk.

  • Delivery and Management of Risk Management Policy;
  • Provide expert technical and non-technical advice, support and coaching;
  • Continuous Improvement and Quality of the Risk Management Framework;
  • Provision of Risk reporting, insights and value added risk activity;
  • Insurance

Dimensions

  • Reports to the Enterprise Risk Management Lead
  • Engage directly with NDA Corporate Centre, other NDA Group Businesses, NWS Executive Directors, Heads of Programme, Departmental / Lines of Business Heads and staff members in NWS as required.
  • Work closely with the NWS Assurance, Audit and Quality teams to ensure risk management is a focal point of this activity.
  • External contacts include NDA Group Risk and Assurance team, OPCO Risk functions, Internal Audit.
  • Supervision of 2 Risk Practitioners
Experience Required
  • Experienced professional with a demonstrable expertise in a management role relating to Risk Management. Experience of Insurance management desirable
  • Delivery of implementation of risk management approaches and systems
  • Professional qualification (achieved or working towards) in risk management (E.g IRM, MoR, Degree level qualification) direct experience in risk management
  • High resilience and the diplomacy to deal with ambiguity and change
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both face to face and in writing, including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly.
  • Ability to simplify complexity, standardise our approach, insert discipline and drive focus and delivering high quality written reports covering complex issues and data visualisation;
  • Experience of, and confidence to, work with senior stakeholders up to and including Board Non-Executives, and regular engagement at Executive and Heads of Function level;
  • The ability to clearly articulate and present the status of Risk and mitigating strategies in their strategic context to stakeholders
  • Experienced in applying risk, audit and assurance controls and process regimes within a multi-faceted organisation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tools and techniques in risk management, and approaches used in a range of industries, including practical implementation expertise
  • Excellent Communication and influencing skills, along with the ability to flex personal style to engage and motivate others, and with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • A can-do attitude, delivery focus and ability to manage own workload, including time and deadline management
