Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Quantity Surveyor to join its busy Harwell team supporting the Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) team in delivering a range of key strategic, operational and transformational projects and providing support and advice to the business and with responsibility for tender support, subcontract management, internal reporting and client liaison on a portfolio of schemes.

As part of this role you will support the creation of reporting and processes for the new Nuclear Waste Services organisation and could involve running, reviewing, and streamlining current reporting processes. The role will report to the Head of Contract Managemente and Senior Project Manager but may report in to and work with other individuals depending on the project or activity. 

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Manage the administration of varying values and complexity contracts, driving compliance and contractual performance, including NEC4 Contracts. 
  • Manage all contract communication, including creating and distributing action lists, meeting minutes, Early Warnings, Project Managers Instructions and Compensation Events, and accepting/rejecting Contractors Notifications. 
  • Manage disputes/potential disputes through negotiation, collaborative working and escalation as required. 
  • Support the tendering and evaluation process, including advising on appropriate procurement strategy and contract and producing pre-tender estimates. 
  • Support the project's early warning register's maintenance, including valuing the likely cost consequence of each risk/opportunity. 
  • Manage the close-out of all assigned projects, implementing the close-out plan(s) to ensure all defects are recorded, warranties received, and contracts closed, as well as completion of financial close-out, including asset cost data for capitalisation purposes.
  • Perform supervisory role to Assistant Quantity Surveyors or Quantity Surveyors within the wider programme team.
  • Acting as deputy to the Service Manager and undertaking the role of Service Manager in their absence. 
Experience Required
  • Educated to Degree/Post-Grad level or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management business-related field. 
  • Experience (typically associated with five years' experience) as a Quantity Surveyor on projects with a value typically in excess of £10m is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience with MS Excel.
  • Experience in projects in a live operational environment is desirable.
  • Understanding engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and start-up work processes.
  • Understanding of mathematical and financial reports.
  • Understanding NEC4 principles regarding programmes, change processes, EWN, subcontractor management etc. 
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
