Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for an Environmental Assessments Manager with marine ecology experience to join its busy team, flexible working across the NWS estate.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for technical inputs to environmental and sustainability assessments, in specified area(s) of expertise, managed through the supply chain.

This is include the provision of specialist technical inputs to environmental and sustainability assessments in specified area(s) of expertise. Such areas may cover environmental topics such as noise, air quality and ecology; socio-economic topics such as employment, economic development and property values; and health and well-being topics including access to health services and facilities, community cohesion and transport related health issues.

Also, technical support for development and implementation of NWS’s Sustainable Design Objectives, work package and/or Task Manager for specialist technical assessments supporting, for example, Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provision of technical inputs to environmental and sustainability assessments
  • Responsible for technical inputs to assessment work at generic and location-specific levels - including inputs to a wide range of statutory and non-statutory environmental assessments, socio-economic assessments and health impact assessments. Includes:
    • identifying assessment requirements within specified area(s) of expertise
    • ensuring requirements are captured appropriately in NWS’s programme of environmental and sustainability assessment work
    • ensuring delivery of the work through the use of internal resources and/or utilising specialist suppliers (including specifying and managing contracts with external suppliers)
    • ensuring work is properly integrated with RWM’s wider work programme – particularly the GDF siting process, design development and radiological safety assessments.
Experience Required
  • Good first degree in marine ecology or engineering subject
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a specific project or infrastructure
  • Chartered membership (or working towards it) status in relevant professional institute
  • Good understanding of the UK regulatory, policy and good practice framework for environmental and sustainability assessments
  • Experience of producing specialist technical reports supporting environmental and sustainability assessments such as EIA and HRA.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, technical reports appropriate for a range of audiences.
  • Good interpersonal and team-working skills.
