Nuclear Waste Services is looking for a Environmental Safety Case (ESC) Specialist with a degree in Chemistry to join our busy team in Cumbria.

Nuclear Waste Services, a leading organisation in the field of nuclear waste management, is currently seeking an Environmental Safety Case Specialist to join our dynamic and dedicated team at the LLW Repository Site in Cumbria. As an Environmental Safety Case Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of the Environmental Safety Case.

You will support submissions regulators, setting out a range of arguments demonstrating optimisation of disposal facility design and operations, and showing how NWS will be safe both in terms of operational and post-closure impacts on humans and the environment.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and analysis of the environmental safety case related to radioactive waste management.
  • Develop and maintain safety cases in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective integration of environmental safety considerations into waste management processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, industry guidelines, and scientific advancements to continuously enhance safety case methodologies.
Experience Required
  • Degree in Chemistry
  • Solid understanding of environmental safety principles and their application in the nuclear industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex scientific data and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
