Nuclear Waste Services is looking for a Finance Manager to join our busy team across the UK.

This is a great opportunity to support the development of a high performing Finance Control team reporting into the NWS Financial Controller and will support the wider business as a Subject Matter Expert for Finance.

The role holder is responsible for managing the Business World financial control team and will oversee the day-to-day accounting functions for NWS in Business World. They will support the Finance Controller in managing the finance operations, financial control and governance, preparing timely and accurate management accounts, tax compliance, statutory reporting and associated regulatory requirements for one of the NWS statutory entities.

This role is to backfill an existing position within the former LLWR Finance Team, during the transition phase to the ‘One-NWS’ Finance Control Team which will see the former RWM Finance team migrate from SAGE X3 to Business World.

The key purpose of this role is to ensure continuity and consistency within the former LLWR Finance team during the period of change.  

Cumbria based preferable, however location is flexible if regular travel to the office based in Pelham House, Cumbria can be achieved.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support the development of the Finance Control function by automating and improving current controls, processes, systems and embedding a continuous improvement mindset in the team. Continually reduce reporting cycles and improve control while improving efficiency
  • Lead the Business World Finance Control finance team that includes qualified / part qualified / non-qualified accountant roles – supporting their professional and career development
  • Lead the transaction processing, monthly management accounts and year-end statutory accounts and balance sheet reconciliations / financial controls for Business World.

  • Provide day to day financial assurance service for authorisation for payment & expense runs, Treasury transfers, Customer invoicing and other ad hoc requests.
  • Provide support on ad hoc queries from NWS Exec, NDA, BEIS as and when required
  • Monitor and work to protect the integrity of all financial data, to ensure compliance with all governance related policies and procedures
  • Support the Financial Controller in the management of the finance risk register and implementation of controls to mitigate risks
Experience Required
  • Public Sector and Nuclear / Infrastructure experience would be advantageous
  • Experience with consolidation of group financial statements
Qualifications Needed
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA / CIPFA or equivalent) with post qualification experience
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures (UK GAAP)
