Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services is looking for a GDF Requirements Manager to join our busy team in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and supporting requirements, architectures and interfaces for the GDF Programme. Also, the development and maintenance of requirements management and related systems engineering product.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Developing GDF Sponsor’s and System Requirements through facilitation of multi-disciplinary workshops and discussions.
  • Ensuring all requirements pertaining to the development of the GDF are conforming to in-house procedures and best practice.
  • Maintenance of an up-to-date requirements management tool (currently DOORS Next).
  • Supporting the development of systems engineering processes such as interface control, verification and validation (V+V), configuration and change control.
  • Supporting projects with the application of requirements management and systems engineering.

Development of requirements for the GDF Programme:

  • Supporting development of GDF Sponsor’s Requirements, identifying associated assumptions and risks and co-ordinating assessments required for proposed changes.
  • Supporting development of GDF System Requirements in accordance with relevant procedures and maintaining traceability to Sponsor’s Requirements. 
  • Maintaining an up-to-date requirements database in accordance with governance arrangements. 

Supporting the establishment of Systems Engineering practices and culture within the GDF Programme:

  • Inputting to procedure, process and tool development necessary to manage the complex GDF design.
  • Provide support with requirements management activities for projects within the GDF Programme. 
  • Identify good practice and feedback suggestions on how to improve NWS procedures. 
  • In addition, the post-holder will undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.
     
Experience Required

Essential

  • Experience of Systems Engineering and requirements management in complex projects and programmes (ideally nuclear or infrastructure sectors). 
  • Experience of leading and facilitating interdisciplinary working, ensuring good participation and buy-in from all involved.  
  • Experience of working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to elicit requirements and develop system architectures.
  • An understanding of Systems Engineering processes and practices, as defined in ISO15288 and INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to present and explain technical and complex problems, tailored appropriately for the audience.
  • A pragmatic, problem-solving approach, in particular the ability to identify the key issues and distinguish the essential from the ‘nice to have’.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and learn new skills.
  • The ability to work on parallel tasks, often to tight deadlines.

Desired

  • Background in a STEM subject.
  • Experience of working in a regulated industry, including intelligent customer and competency management.
  • Working with a requirements management tool, preferably DOORS Next. 
  • Knowledge of the science underpinning disposal of radioactive waste.
  • Knowledge of UK radioactive wastes.
  • Experience of project management and working with contractors.
