Job Description

Nuclear Waste Services has a vacancy for a Regulatory Engagement Manager to join its busy team flexible working across the NWS estate.

As The Regulatory Engagement Manager, you will help maintain an appropriate and effective relationship with our regulators. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of NWS’s regulatory engagement strategy and associated engagement plans. 
  • Developing management system arrangements and associated systems to support regulatory engagement.
  • Supporting integration across NWS and co-ordinating engagement with regulators.
  • Ensuring appropriate and timely responses to regulatory actions, issues and feedback.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Supporting the development and implementation of NWS’s regulatory engagement strategy and associated engagement plans.  Working with others to maintain an appropriate regulatory stakeholder profile document.  Working with others to develop appropriate regulatory engagement implementation plans, eg to facilitate right first time regulatory submissions.
  • Developing management system arrangements and associated systems to support regulatory engagement, including records management and action and issues tracking.
  • Support integration across NWS and co-ordinating engagement with regulators to ensure effective and efficient regulatory engagement and information flow.  Advising on and supporting planning and preparation for engagement and development of materials. Provides support for budgeting.
  • With support from the administration team, ensure appropriate and timely responses to regulatory actions, issues and feedback.
  • Supporting reporting on regulatory developments, progress with engagement plans, costs and issues.
  • The job holder will undertake other activities commensurate with their skills and experience as and when required.
Experience Required

Essential

  • Experience of interacting with nuclear and environmental regulators.
  • Experience of coordinating internally within a complex organisation, influencing without line management responsibility, and matrix management.
  • Significant understanding of the regulatory regime applicable to radioactive waste management and disposal.
  • Significant understanding of regulators’ wider roles, and how regulators and developers can work together.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Experienced with leading change, with the ability to work in an environment undergoing significant transformation, can demonstrate a proven ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven ability to behave professionally in challenging circumstances, engage with a range of stakeholders to effectively drive change and proven leadership in challenging conversations involving multiple stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Chartered membership status in relevant professional institute.
  • Broad-based familiarity with the NDA, NWS and radioactive waste management in the UK.
