Nuclear Waste Services has an exciting secondment opportunity for Senior Project Manager to join Nuclear Waste Services!

As a Senior Project Manager you will play an important role throughout the full project lifecycle from project initiation, delivery and close out within a significant waste management programme. On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for delivery of your assigned project(s), playing a key role in providing permanent answers for nuclear waste.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • You will report into one of the Programme Managers within the Programme Team who will maintain line management responsibility including objective setting and personal development.
  • The role will have line management responsibility for Project Manager(s) within their team.
  • The Senior Project Manager will lead and manage the delivery of Projects. The Senior PM will be accountable and will report to the Programme Manager.  
  • The Senior PM will be fully responsible for full lifecycle project ownership and project delivery to meet objectives to time, cost, quality and safety.
  • The role holder will be responsible for establishing projects, including gaining agreement on project objectives, planning and defining scope, gaining required stage gate approvals, procuring required resources, managing project teams and utilising appropriate governance arrangements. This role will also contribute to the support required to mature P3M application working closely with the NWS Central EPMO function. 
  • The Senior PM will drive decision making and proactively manage issues and risks/opportunities, providing timely and effective reporting to ensuring that there are no surprises for key stakeholders. 

The Senior PM will be accountable to the Programme Manager for leading, planning, controlling and delivering a programme of work with scope.  The post holder shall:

  • Manage and lead relevant projects to ensure delivery to the agreed project objectives.
  • Provide project management and oversight for all aspects of allocated projects within Nuclear Waste Services.
  • Ensure integrated planning across projects and functions in both the near and longer-term, cascading and translating programme vision into project delivery requirements.
    Ensure that effective governance and control is exercised over the Project.
  • Develop, monitor and control the budget for projects within the Senior PM’s responsibility.
  • Ensure accurate reporting is provided to senior stakeholders. 
  • Provide effective leadership and support, including coaching and mentoring as appropriate, to project managers and project staff.
  • Own risk and issue management across projects and the Programme to ensure risks and issues are managed proactively, effectively and, where appropriate, escalated to the NWS Programme Board to ensure there are no surprises for key stakeholders.  
  • Own the management of scope, schedules, assumptions and dependencies across projects within the relevant Programme and Nuclear Waste Services to ensure effective configuration and change control.
  • Work with functional leads and other project managers to ensure that sufficient resource (internal and external, including any required external spend) is secured, allocated and prioritised to deliver the required programme.
  • Change Management and communication of change to support delivery of the Programme and culture and organisational change.
  • Ensure strategic initiatives and regulatory requirements are integrated and supported within the relevant Programme
  • Identify and manage stakeholder relationships, including effective communications, concerning the Project, with NDA sites and other industry stakeholders, with key feedback loops to ensure lessons learned are communicated.
  • Support the wider programme and project management capability development in NWS, including the mentoring/coaching of staff to help increase the programme and project management maturity of NWS aligned to the central EPMO P3M Maturity improvement activities. 
  • Specific financial authorities are delegated to this post holder, in line with the NWS scheme of financial delegation.
  • This includes oversight of any funds allocated to deliver contract work.
